To send emails with Proposeful, you need to set up your SMTP credentials.
What is SMTP?
SMTP is a protocol that allows us to connect to your email account and send emails in your regard.
This is useful because it improves the deliverability of your email messages and gives you and your clients more security.
How to Set Up SMTP Credentials
SMTP credentials are on a per-user basis. That means that each user in your account that wants to save emails needs to set up their own SMTP credentials and can only send email from their own email addresses.
To set up SMTP credentials, follow these steps:
1- Go to the settings page;
2- Under SMTP credentials, type the email you want to send messages as. This email must be the same or an alias of the email address you use to access Proposeful;
3- Provide your SMTP credentials (more below);
4- Click save.
If your credentials are valid, you’ll see a success message and will be able to send your documents via email from Proposeful.
Sending Email From Gmail
If your email provider is Gmail, you must take additional steps:
1- First, your Google Account needs to have 2-Step Authentication on. This makes your account safer by requesting you to confirm your identity every time you log in from a new device;
2- Now, you need to create a app password. You’ll be providing this password when saving your SMTP credentials on Proposeful, so you don’t need to expose your real password. To do so, follow the steps listed here.
3- You can now connect Proposeful to your Gmail SMTP server by using the app password you’ve just created and the following SMTP data:
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP User: [email protected]
SMTP Password: the app password you’ve created
SMTP Port: 587
Security: TLS
If you use Gsuite, just follow the same steps using your Google account.

Sending Email From Other Hosts
For other email service providers like AWS, Godaddy, Dreamhost and more, you should request them how to find your SMTP credentials.
Typically, you can find this information easily in your control panel under email preferences or from articles in the service providers knowledge bases.
